A 17-YEAR-OLD FEMALE TEENAGER WAS ARRESTED BY POLICE IN CONNECTION WITH CAUSING A FIRE

A 17-YEAR-OLD FEMALE TEENAGER WHO IS A RESIDENT AT ONE OF THE CHILDREN’S RESIDENCE UNDER THE CHILDREN’S AUTHORITY, WAS ARRESTED BY POLICE IN CONNECTION WITH CAUSING A FIRE THAT PARTIALLY DESTROYED A CHILD SUPPORT RESIDENCE IN TACARIGUA EARLY ON THURSDAY 9TH JUNE, 2022.• SHORTLY AFTER 1AM, A SECURITY ON DUTY AT THE PREMISES NOTICED THE TEENAGER BEHAVING IN AN ERRATIC MANNER, DESTROYING ITEMS ON THE EASTERN SIDE OF THE OFFICE.

SHORTLY AFTER THE TEENAGER IS ALLEGED TO HAVE PULLED SOME “EXPOSED” ELECTRICAL WIRES WHICH CREATED A SPARK AND THEN A FIRE. THE OFFICER, A POLICE REPORT SAID, ATTEMPTED TO EXTINGUISH THE BLAZE BUT SUCH ATTEMPTS WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. • THE FIRE SERVICES WERE CONTACTED AND OFFICERS WERE ABLE TO BRING THE BLAZE UNDER CONTROL. ALL THE 18 CHILDREN AT THE RESIDENCE HAD BEEN EVACUATED BY STAFF MEMBERS BEFORE THE BLAZE AND THEY WERE LATER TRANSFERRED TO THE ST. DOMINIC’S CHILDREN’S HOME.

THE TEENAGER WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BY POLICE OFFICERS AFTER INTERVIEWING THE SECURITY GUARD. THE CHILDREN’S AUTHORITY CONFIRMED THE INCIDENT VIA A PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED EARLIER TODAY
