A 10-year-old boy was one of two people who were shot and wounded during a shootout between rival gangs in Carenage on Monday 26th June, 2023.

• Around 4:10pm, a 24-year-old man identified as Tarik Wickham aka “Stick Man” was reportedly driving a BMW allegedly belonging to Trinibad Artist, Prince Swanny, along Abbe Poujade Street, when a white Nissan B-14 pulled up alongside him.

• Moments later, the occupants of the B-14, fired several shots at the BMW causing it to crash along the roadway.

• Wickham exited the vehicle and attempted to seek cover, when he realised, he had been shot in both hands.

• The gunmen continued shooting at Wickham who ran into Sea View Hill to escape the hail of bullets.

• At the same time, the 10-year-old boy was reportedly heading to a nearby shop, when he sustained a gunshot injury to his ankle by a stray bullet.

• The child ducked for cover and the suspects fled the scene.

• Residents subsequently notified the police and emergency health services and the injured victims were taken to the St James Medical Complex where they were treated.

• The child was later transferred to the Mt Hope hospital where he was warded in serious but stable condition.

• Crime scene investigators also visited the scene and recovered eight spent shells and the suspect’s getaway vehicle was found abandoned in Carenage.
