39-year-old Atiba Smith from Francois Street Carenage is in serious condition after being shot by police on Thursday 22nd September 2022
• According to police of the Carenage and the Western Division Task Force responded to Francois Street in Carenage around 7 p.m. as part of a search for guns in the area.
• Police stated that upon arrival they saw a man with a gun running down the stairs from a nearby house towards the two policemen who were on a nearby track.
• The officers ordered smith to stop, but he continued towards them with a Mac-11 submachine in which one of the officers fired shots at Smith.
• He was then taken to the St. James Medical Centre, where he had emergency surgery and is listed as in critical condition.
Early on Monday 19th September:
Gunmen, using high-powered weapons, opened fire on a group of persons, including a T&T dancehall and reggae artiste, in the same area in Carenage.
• Over 100 spent shells of assorted calibre were recovered at the scene at Francois Road in Carenage.
• Residents also confirmed hearing gunfire but refused to give any other information
