On Friday 21st January, 2023, 22-year-old Antonio Matthews also known as “Totoman” was shot and killed by police at Cantaro Village in Santa Cruz.
• Shortly before midnight, Matthews was shot during an alleged shootout with police at LP #53 Sam Boucaud Road, Cantaro Village, Santa Cruz.
• Matthews was taken to Mt. Hope hospital where he was pronounced dead. Officers said they allegedly recovered a pistol at the scene of the shooting.
• The officers identified Matthews as a suspect involved in recent shootings and murders in the Cantaro Village Santa Cruz area.
Joanne Jeffery, one of Matthews’ cousins spoke with our camera crew hours after the killing and described what happened. They said the police never identified themselves and they thought it was bandits.
• She accused the police of shooting at Matthews who was unarmed at the time when officers invaded their home.
