A 14-year-old schoolboy was shot dead while playing football while another man was critically injured, following a shooting in Valencia on Saturday 25th March, 2023.
• The deceased has been identified as 14-year-old Keil Paul of K.P. Lands, Valencia who lived a stone’s throw away from where he was killed, while the injured man was identified as 26-year-old Brian Burnette.
• Paul, a form 3 student at Coryal High School, was reportedly playing football with some friends at K.P lands in Valencia, when gunmen emerged from a car and opened fire on the group.
• Paul was attempting to flee from the hail of bullets, when he ran into the path of the suspects and sustained gunshot injuries to his leg and chest.
• The teen who would have turned 15 in April, died at the scene of the shooting and his body was removed to Sangre Grande Hospital mortuary where it will be taken to the Forensic Sciences Centre for a post-mortem examination.
• Burnette who also attempted the escape the gunfire, sustained several gunshot injuries about the body and was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
• Asp Jankie, Sgts Edwards, Leon, Pc Sookdeo and other officers attached ERP and Special Patrol of Valencia Police Post visited the scene and CCTV footage of the incident was handed over to the officers.
