126 Digicel call Centre employees were retrenched with immediate effect on Monday 27th March, 2023.
• Around 8:00am, the announcement was made via a virtual meeting with the company’s CEO Abraham Smith ending months of speculation among employees and their statuses.
• Staff’s access to the system was immediately blocked as their services were transferred to a Call Centre in Jamaica.
• Digicel’s CEO, Smith, stated that he is grateful for the contributions of the Contact Centre Agents and recognizes their commitment to providing excellent service, but that the company’s move will benefit customers and the company in the long run, by streamlining its operations and reducing cost, which will ultimately help the business to continue being competitive and sustainable.
